Almost all bloggers have to learn the basics of HTML at some point. Although you can do a lot in the visual view of your dashboard, you have much more flexibility and control if you understand the HTML side as well.

With that in mind, I put together this cheat sheet of commonly used HTML tags.

What it is: The cheat sheet lists common categories, elements and attributes so you don’t have to look them up as you’re learning to use them.

What it’s not: It isn’t, however, a tutorial, so if you don’t understand basic HTML principles already, this probably won’t help you much! Never fear, though, because we will have more tutorials in the future for beginners as well.

Click here to download or print the cheat sheet.

Do you use your HTML editor or do you stick with the visual editor?

I haven’t done much html in the last year or so but for me I do both the visual and html editor equally. I love this cheat sheet. Will be fantastic to refer to this if I am in need of a code.

    Thank you!

I know zilch about html, and I have a blog. I use the html editor a lot, but if I made a mistake I have to just delete and start again. When I first started making my posts more than simple paragraphs, I fought for quite a bit with it.
Now I have just about figured out WP.com but I am switching to self-hosted WP.org with a thems, so I sure this will come in handy.
Now I need to know, what is CSS and how is that different from HTML, lol!?!

Oh no, that’s a whole ‘nother can of worms! CSS basically works with HTML to add style to the elements. Maybe we’ll work on a CSS tutorial too!
